Document indexing

This is different from book or journal indexing in that there is no separate index. Index terms are linked to the document where the files can be found by using a search tool such as Yahoo or Google or even as simple as the search tools found in Adobe Acrobat and the Windows operating system. There is another tool that comes into play to help increase the relevancy of online searching. This is a taxonomy which is a type of thesaurus commonly associated with classification systems.

These tools are sometimes used to maintain a standard terminology for metadata indexing and content management. These tools are most often used for information retrieval systems and content management systems for businesses. The relevancy results of a taxonomy-based online search compared to full-text cannot be understated in it's ability to save time in conducting online searches.
